[ale] Slackware and X : Error --->'linux' :unknown terminal type

Hi everyone:

I installed ZipSlack (Linux 2.2.6) on an old Canon laptop. Everything 
seems to work fine. Then I installed X. I configured all the params 
for X. Now if I try to startx, I get the following error:
    'linux': unknown terminal type.

I get the same message even if I try the "setterm" command. What am I 
doing wrong here? Can anyone point me in the right direction??
