Tom -
I can't tell you why, but I can tell you of a cure: Black Box and Raritan
make a small device that plugs into the mouse and keyboard ports of a PC and
keeps them "live" (Raritan's is called "Guardian") You can either leave it
hanging there and run your machine "headless" or you can put it in between
your PC and your mouse/kbd and then you can remove/reconnect the mouse/kbd at
will while the machine runs on.
